SearchWith extension version 0.4 is out!

One reason I haven't blogged in the last 2 months is because of my other personal software projects. As Dare Obasanjo once put it on his blog description, "Writing Code Will Always Be More Important Than Writing About Code".

I'm therefore pleased to announce that SearchWith version 0.4 has been released and is available at Mozilla Addons SearchWith site: (addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2194).

SearchWith is search extension for Firefox, Thunderbird and Flock. It allows you group search engines by service (content type) and search from the context (right-click) menu.

Apart from big fixes, this version includes improvements to the Addressbar option especially in Thunderbird. Addressbar option now integrates well with Google's Feeling lucky feature.

Another enhancement in this version is that when you search with all engines for a particular service, SearchWith will automatically remember to pre-select all engines under that service, by default.

To select all engines or change this back, use the Advanced Search dialog which pops up when you hold down the SHIFT key while selecting a search service on the context menu or when you right-click without selecting any text.

Thanks to all those who sent comments, suggestions and bugs.

Hi Soyapi,
Just to inform you that 0.4 of SearchWith no longer works in the Compose body field of TB 2.0.0.9 in XP pro sp2.

Oh the menu pops up and I click on say Web. But Firefox 2.0.0.11 doesn't pop up a new tab and go to the page.

However if I go to the same email when it's in the view page (ie after I sent it) and I select the same word then SearchWith does work!

Oh and it doesn't work with words in the Subject field either.
But I don't think it ever did that.

Hope you can fix this as I find it very useful.

Hey Quartermass

Thanks a lot for reporting this problem.

This is a general Thunderbird problem and I have been able to reproduce the it on Thunderbird in Linux as well.

I will work on it and release an update soon.

I will also look into enabling SearchWith on the subject field.

Thanks once again.

I just tried SearchWith and it's a great addition for searching on the web. I was wondering if it's possible to add a Search at Amazon feature? Also, is it possible to automatically switch to the tab in which the search is performed?

Thanks for the great work!

I'm glad to see that you like SearchWith and I'm pleased to inform you that your requests can be met with the current version.

You can add a new Service e.g. Books for searching Amazon and then assign Amazon.com, which should already be in your list of engines, to the Books service using Manage Services... option. It's the last on on the context menu. Check out Listkal's article on SearchWith for a tutorial on adding a new Service at http://www.listikal.com/searchwith-my-favorite-firefox-extension/

For switching to a new tab automatically, SearchWith acts according to Firefox's "When I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately" option in Tools,Options,Tabs (or Edit, Preferences, Tabs). Enable that checkbox and SearchWith will behave the way you described.

I hope that helps. Let me know if you need more info.

Hi Soyapi!
I see, that you uploaded the SearchWith 0.4.2 on AMO.
The Hungarian (hu-HU) is missing there. The locale is longer available on BabelZilla too. Please collect all new or updated locales from there.
Thanx

Hi Soyapi,

Thanks for your SearchWith. However I found that my newly added service names “test1” and “test2” can't be seen via right mouse click to SearchWith. Would you pls tell me how to see them?

Besides, I also can't remove added engines inside the service. Is it normal?
